Student of the Month for April

We walked into Day Care to pick up the girls tonight, and found Katie was wearing a different shirt from what she wore to school.  This happens every once and a while when she spills on her shirt or has some kind of accident, so we assumed that was the case.  Instead, we were very proud to find out that Katie had been named “Student of the Month” for Kindergarten for the month of April.

There she is in her brand new shirt.  Here’s the text of her nomination:

“Have you seen that little girl with the really big smile?  Then you have seen Katie Newell; the kindergarten student of the month!  Katie is a great help to her teachers and her friends and always has a kind word for everyone!  Katie has worked hard all year and she is ready to be a successful First Grader!  Thank you Katie for your fantastic personality and positive attitude!  You have been a super-star student and you deserve to be our kindergarten student of the month.”

On top of that, her reading has really excelled recently.  This morning, she read the entire “Go Dog, Go” book which (she likes to repeat after the first time I bragged about her reading most of it) is 62 pages long.  The last couple nights we’ve done more and more reading and she really does a good job of recognizing words she knows.  She’s not great yet at breaking down a word she doesn’t know, but she’s getting better there too.

Way to go Katie – thanks for making us so proud.
