I seem to be suffering from analysis paralysis – I have too much to write about but I can’t think of enough interesting to say about any particular topic to make for a good entry. So I’ll take the easy way out and just bullet point my way through a list of recent happenings:
- My dad retired after 36 1/2 years of service with his firm. We attended his retirement party back in early December and it was fun to see how many people showed up to honor and celebrate his work. It’s always interesting to get other people’s perspectives on your dad and how he went about leading people at work. Through some unusual circumstances, he was offered the opportunity to coach the B (10th grade) boys basketball team in my hometown, so he’s not exactly commitment free, but it must be pretty weird not to have to get up at 6am every day and head off to work.
- We went to my brothers house last weekend and had a good time just hanging out. We celebrated my dad’s retirement and watched football on my brother’s big screen. I had gotten him the HD-DVD of the Bourne Ultimatum for Christmas so we watched that, but when we got to the very end with about 6 minutes left, the DVD errored out. Good thing we’d all seen it before or that would have been frustrating.
- What looked like a pretty boring weekend this weekend turned into lots of fun. On Friday night we were invited over to some friends in town for Papa Murphy’s and to play their Wii. I hadn’t played the Wii before, and you could tell by my feeble efforts in cow racing and electronic bowling. I thought I was bad at bowling in real life, but it actually turns out I’m better there than I am on the Wii.
- Then Saturday night we invited those friends plus two other friend families over after supper to watch the football game and hang out. The night was lots of fun and was topped off by a rousing edition of "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" sung, not around the campfire, but on couches in front of a projected TV with kids screaming in the background.
- Katie’s getting awfully excited for her birthday coming up this week. She seems so grown-up already (most of the time, at least) that I usually call her a 4-year old even though she’s not there yet. It will be nice to make it official this week.
- Amelia’s been pretty talkative lately. Even though she says all of five words, with the combination of grunts and points, I can usually tell what’s she’s after. She is good at saying no, and nothing beats the excitement she has when she’s saying yes. She just says somthing like "ha" and smiles and nods her head a little.
Battery’s running low – time to go. Until next time.
