Insatiable

We have been snowed in the last couple days – having received 10 or so inches of snow with some strong winds.  We were planning to go to the Cities this weekend and visit Uncle Dave at his new house, but it sounds like the roads aren’t good enough for travel.

Amelia has been eating "big girl" food now for a couple months, and she’s going crazy.  I can’t understand how someone that little can eat so much and still be in the 20% percentile of weight.  She is eating her big sister and her momma under the table at pretty much every meal.  A typical meal for Amelia consists of:

25 grapes
100 cheerios
1 6 oz container of yogurt

She would eat more if we’d let her – in fact, I’ve never seen her full.  As long as someone is feeding her or food is in front of her, she will keep eating.  The other night I cut up a whole apple for her, gave her a piece of bread, some chicken sticks and she was still hungry.  I bought some blueberries yesterday at the grocery store for $2.59, but I hesitate doing that because I know that won’t even be half of one meal for her.

The way she eats is pretty crazy too – she is a two-handed eater.  She grabs cheerios (for example) in each hand and stuffs them in her mouth like we’re going to take them away from her.  I’m pretty surprised she hasn’t choked yet – she only has 8 teeth, but she continuously jams her mouth full.

When it’s "eat time" she gets really excited and starts flapping her arms up and down.  She keeps doing this while she starts to shriek.  If we have food prepared that’s not right in front of her, she’ll start screaming.  Her tolerance for waiting is about 2 seconds.

It’ll be interesting to see how long this lasts.   I’d better cut this short so I can run to the grocery store.
