I was too busy (lazy) to write a Christmas card on time – frankly I couldn’t think of any interesting way to write it. After seeing all the cards come in, I thought it would be good to reflect on the year – even in a unoriginal way. Amelia turned 4 in February and weContinue reading “Merry Christmas from the Newells”

Halloween 2010
It seems like every year, Halloween gets more and more involved. All of these pumpkin patches have sprung up around the area, so the build-up to Halloween now includes: Buying Halloween Costumes (we usually go to one of the custom stores, but we actually found Wal-Mart to be cheaper and they still had a decentContinue reading “Halloween 2010”
Quick Memorial Weekend Recap
Here I go getting behind again on my blogging – I’ve been busy and work and staying up late worrying about how to keep my fantasy baseball team in first place. So instead of getting into too much about last weekend, I’ll just do a summary. There were enough things that happened that I needContinue reading “Quick Memorial Weekend Recap”
11pm Rendez-vous
It sounds a lot more interesting than it is. We are working on getting Amelia to sleep without a diaper, so for the past couple months, I’ve been waking her up at 11pm (give or take 20 minutes) to go to the bathroom. It’s the only thing that works. If you let her sleep throughContinue reading “11pm Rendez-vous”
A Year of Change
Becky’s back with another post: This past school year has been a pretty big one for us. Katie finishes kindergarten next Friday and Amelia has already finished junior pre-school. Both of them have grown substantially in the past year. Katie in particular went from a 5 year old straight to a teenager. She actsContinue reading “A Year of Change”
Katie’s Reading Program
Katie’s kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Messer, held a year end Reading Program in her class last Thursday. She invited all the parents in to see what they’d been working on this year. She started out by showing what animal each kid is like. Everyone chose an animal except for Katie – she said she would beContinue reading “Katie’s Reading Program”
Parent Teacher Conference #1
We had our first parent teacher conference tonight for Katie since she started Kindergarten. Mrs. Messer did a nice job of going through multiple areas and talking about how Katie is performing. She talked about her word recognition, color recognition and even ability to pick up themes within a story. Katie is doing greatContinue reading “Parent Teacher Conference #1”
Mia’s Turn for School
We were really never too concerned about Katie starting school last week. We knew she’d love it, and she does. She’s almost done with two weeks and she’s having fun every day. She even received the Gumball Award last week for being the best rester. She’s keeping up with everything and having fun playing onContinue reading “Mia’s Turn for School”
Our Big Girl’s First Day of School
I guess we’ve reached a landmark in our lives now – we have a daughter in school. Katie started all day, every day Kindergarten today. She is in Mrs. Messer’s class, and she’s loving it so far. People asked if I was going to cry or get emotional, but that never really crossed myContinue reading “Our Big Girl’s First Day of School”
Intro to Theatre
For the past two weeks, my mom has been nice enough to take Katie and Amelia down to a class for 4-5 years called Intro to Theatre. There are about 7 kids in this class which ran from 12:30-1:30 each day and the kids get to act out parts of fairy tales and kids stories. Continue reading “Intro to Theatre”
