I have the honor of playing for the HELPERS annual Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser tomorrow night. I believe I have that honor because I’m the only one who will play for free. Here are the tunes I plan to rock the house with tomorrow night:
- Scenes from an Italian Restaurant – Billy Joel (only fitting since it’s an Italian meal)
- Upside Down – Jack Johnson
- I’m Yours – Jason Mraz
- In So Deep – me
- Dance with Me – Orleans
- El Paso – Marty Robbins (Becky’s favorite old song)
- Amie – Pure Prairie League
- Simple Pleasures – me
- Sunshine – Paul Westerberg
- Man on the Moon – REM
- Driving on the Interstate with my Brights On – me
- I Love a Rainy Night – Eddie Rabbit (Becky’s request)
- Fire and Rain – James Taylor
- Fly – me
- My Maria – BW Stevenson (another of Becky’s favorites)
- Moondance – Van Morrison
- Dance with Me instrumental
- Scenes from an Italian Restaurant – end
I’ve been working hard on Dance with Me lately – it’s taken me a long time to be able to do the verse consistently and I’m still working on nailing the ending. My girls like it a lot better when I change some of the titles above from “Amie” to “Katie” and from “My Maria” to “My Amelia”, so I’ll probably do that and see if anyone notices. I haven’t really played El Paso or I Love a Rainy Night before, but they look pretty straight-forward, so I’ll give it a shot.
I played this last year and wasn’t sure what to expect for a format. I really just sit in a corner and play with no mic or anything. Most of the people just talk while I’m playing, so most of the time last year I was wondering if anyone was actually listening. A few times people would look up, so I guess that was encouraging. After it was over, I got a lot of good comments, so people must have been listening, but as I was up there I felt like I could screw up pretty bad and no one would notice. So it’s the ideal, low pressure gig.
