Our Big Girl’s First Day of School

I guess we’ve reached a landmark in our lives now – we have a daughter in school.  Katie started all day, every day Kindergarten today.  She is in Mrs. Messer’s class, and she’s loving it so far.

People asked if I was going to cry or get emotional, but that never really crossed my mind because Katie is so excited about going to school.  I’ve thought about how old I feel, but other than that, I’m just excited for Katie.

We brought her to school this morning and there were TONS of parents there – it seemed like the entire town was there.  Becky said they should’ve served coffee afterwards so all the parents could get together.  She had been to school last Wednesday night for Back to School night and had the opportunity to find her cubby, her mail station and her chair.  She knew right where to go this morning and settled in well.  She did some coloring and work with letters this morning then I believe she had a little bit of Phy Ed and Music somewhere in her day.  She went to the cafeteria and had pizza for lunch and then got to have a few minutes of recess at the playground, where she played with her friend Jalynn.  Her day ended at 3, and I lined up with the other parents to pick her up.  Her friend Tessa thought she was coming with us to dance right away (that wasn’t for another 45 minutes), so we had a bonus kid for the ride home.

Katie was exhausted by the time she got home and almost fell asleep when she went to Tessa’s for a few minutes to watch TV.  She made it through Dance Class at 4 and all the way until 8pm tonight.  She usually goes to bed at 9, but I think we’ll have to change it up now since she’s pretty wiped out after her long school days.
