On Fridays I typically have a little lighter meeting load at work, so I try to work from home whenever possible. This gives me a chance to get a lot of work done without any of the distractions at work, plus save an hour plus in drive time.
When I work from home on Fridays I let the girls sleep in a little, as their tempers start to creep out throughout the work week as they get more tired. Also, that lets me sleep in, which is always needed by Friday.
This morning was pretty amazing – the girls got themselves up, then got me up, then proceeded to go downstairs for breakfast. Amelia even poured her own cereal (yes, I was nervous the whole time) without spilling. After breakfast, the girls went up, by themselves, to get ready for day care. Katie helped Amelia get dressed and then dressed herself. Of course, since Katie is anti-socks, she forgot to put them on both her and Amelia, but still, it was a pretty darn nice job. Amelia went to the bathroom by herself and even helped me take out the garbage.
I could get used to this self-reliance stuff – I’m sure pretty soon it will turn into "we don’t need you anymore dad", but for now – it’s a good mix of reliance and self-reliance.
