Random Thoughts While Sitting on a Plane

I’m on my way to Seattle tonight for work, so that’s the reason for the bevy of blog entries.  I am fairly caught up at work and have been way behind on the blog, so this is a good opportunity to catch up.  Whenever I’m in the airport or flying process, I have random thoughts – so here they are:

  • Why do they sell hard cover books at the airport?  If there’s one thing I hate, it’s carrying around more than I absolutely have to when I’m in the airport.  I try to downsize my bag as possible, so why would I want the extra burden of a hard cover when I could have the soft?
  • Who are people calling when they are getting on the plane?  I feel bad that I have no one to call, so sometimes I bug Becky with a call as I’m getting on the plane just so I don’t feel left out
  • Why the **** can’t I sleep on a plane?  This drove me nuts on my way home from Munich and I just don’t get why I can’t even get the tiniest little nap in on a plane.

I tried out a new feature at the airport – a Dyson hand dryer.  I was really impressed – you stick your hands down in between two air vents and your hands are dry in 12 seconds using 80% less electricity than normal hand driers and 98% less overall energy than paper towels.

Speaking of energy, I picked up an interesting magazine – a Forbes issue specifically around Energy options.  Everyone seems to be talking these days about the different options, but it’s rare to find someone who’s got a good amount of knowledge around the different sources.  It’s been a good read to get a good grasp of lithium and the pros/cons of ethanol.

I took a late flight this time, and it’s been pretty nice.  I was joined by only 20 or so people on my flight to Minneapolis and the airport was pretty quiet.  I get in at 1:15am my time, so that isn’t great, but at least it’s a quieter experience.
