Katie Update

I haven’t done a lot of Katie updates lately – I feel like we’re getting to the point like so many others in their Christmas card listing where you just list off their activities.  So I guess I’ll start there – Katie starts Senior Preschool on Sep 22 – she has about 17 kids in her class – and I was amazed that she knew just about all of the kids on the list.  It should be fun – a lot of her friends are in the class and she loves going to school.  She started Sunday School again in the next grade and she’s excited to go.  She loves to sing and she gets to do some drawing and learning about Baby Jesus.  She had a week of bible school in early August.  We also attended a Twins game and a Redhawks game together.

We have been busy all summer – it seems like every night we have something to do or we make a point to do something.  Katie had T-ball practice on Monday nights and games on Wednesday nights, so those were eventful days.  We would sometimes hit the library Tuesday night and it seemed we filled the other nights with walks to a park or hanging out with friends.  Katie’s friend Tessa lives just two blocks away, so they would get together (with Amelia and Aaron, Tessa’s brother) quite a bit.

Fish Story

One day at Target, in my effort to spend $100+ regardless of need, I decided it was time to get the girls some fishing rods.  Of course, I can’t buy one – so we got a Dora fishing rod for both of them.  It has a normal rod and reel with a pink plastic fish at the end (without a hook) for "bait".  We practiced several times at grandma and grandpa’s house as well as in the driveway.  One night we decided to take our show on the road to the lake in town.  There’s a dock there for fishing so we figured this would be fun practice for the girls.  They casted once and watched as the pink fish came back there way.  They even caught some weeds so there was a little tug on the line.  On the second cast, there appeared to be a bigger tug on the line.  Becky looked to see what weeds Katie had caught, but didn’t see any.  Instead, she saw a fish on the line – with the line in its mouth and the string wrapped around it.  Katie pulled it in and I fully expected it to fall off as it came up, but no – she caught her first fish.  It was pretty amazing.
