I should first start out by saying it sure is nice that our jobs our flexible. I’ve had to work from home three days this week with Becky joining me for 1 1/2 days. Amelia had diarrhea on Tuesday but was at daycare. That night, she couldn’t keep anything down, so we thought Wednesday might be rough. Amelia didn’t look good when she got up, and while I was getting ready, Katie decided to throw up. I don’t think she was all that sick, but she had some cough and I think she just got phlegm caught in her throat. Well, that made the decision to keep the kids at home for us. Of course, the only day I don’t bring my computer home is the day I have to stay home.
The day got worse from there. Because of Amelia’s diarrhea problem, I was trying to keep her hydrated and thought grapes would be a good idea. Well, I got to see them again in about an hour when I tried to sneak upstairs to check in on my work. I heard crying downstairs and found two huge piles of vomit on the floor. Katie must have been a little sick as well, because once we made it to lunch time, she volunteered for a nap (we can’t really get her to take a nap anymore). Amelia slept for a long time that afternoon and she seemed to be doing better when she got up. However, about 4:30 she threw up twice again, and the second time was all over her daddy. So after that, we got to share a bath. At least the rest of the night was uneventful.
On Thursday, we shipped Katie off to school since she didn’t want to miss her Valentine’s day party she’d been excited about. Becky and I took turns watching Amelia as we tried to work from home. Amelia was doing fine Thursday – she had a little diarrhea, but otherwise was in a good mood. She didn’t eat like normal, so that was weird. It was Thursday that I learned I was going to have to go to Memphis this upcoming week for work – something I thought I was doing in late March. So I had to make all those arrangements while juggling the kids.
Friday looked to be a normal enough day. I was staying at home because we were having our new dryer delivered (our old one petered out last Saturday). At 10:00, I got a call from our day care lady (which is never a good sign). Her daughter was spiking a temperature, so she had to take her to a specialist in the afternoon (what turned out to be pneumonia). So the girls got to hang out with daddy starting at 1pm, and with Katie’s aversion to taking a nap, that meant no more work for daddy. We got our new GE dryer at about 2pm, and other than a fire-like smell when it operates, seems to be pretty cool.
This morning started with Amelia beating on her door to get out of her room. She wanted daddy to get up right away and started putting on my pants and socks while I was in bed. Since she’s not much of a talker, she directs me by dragging my places or pushing my head down for nappy time, or putting on my pants, socks or shoes when it’s time to go. It’s really cute, when it’s time to go somewhere – the only problem is she’s so stubborn that when it’s not time to go somewhere, she usually ends up mad. Oh well, it’s just nice to have her back to normal with her energy. And it’s not so fun to change diapers every 30 minutes.
