They’re Coming Back

After nearly 12 long years, it looks like my favorite band will be reuniting for an album and a world tour.  Extreme became my favorite band when I was a senior in high school, and they’ve held the throne for all these years in absentia.  During the break, their lead singer, Gary Cherone, served as the front man for Van Halen and did several of his own projects.  He was mostly ripped for his time as Van Halen’s lead singer, but I don’t think his singing was the problem.  I listened to some of the songs from the Van Halen III album, and frankly, the songs aren’t good.  No one was going to be successful singing those songs.

Nuno Bettencourt, their guitar player, is in my estimation the best or one of the best musicians in our time.  He released his own album (where he played all the instruments) shortly after Extreme broke up, and since then has been part of several different projects – Mourning Widows, Population 1, and most recently Dramagods.  I’ve liked most of his albums with the exception of Furnished Souls for Rent.  Since most of the albums have been released in Japan, I’ve had to pay some hefty prices ($37 once) for his albums.  With the proliferation of music on the Internet, I didn’t buy his latest album.  I can pretty much go out to YouTube and watch his videos whenever I want.  I found out about the reunion when reading comments left on a YouTube video.

They announced their intentions to get back together in November, but I didn’t hear about it until yesterday.  It sounds like they will be releasing a new album round about April and heading out on tour.  Nuno’s albums lately have been pretty much all rock, so I’m hoping when Extreme gets back together, they can put together an album that has different sounds on it like the Pornograffitti album that included More Than Words.
