Weekend Catch-Up

We had a pretty laid back weekend.  Friday night we did nothing and Saturday we hung around home all morning and headed out to shop in the afternoon.  Apparently the fact that the temperature hit 20 for the first time in a month brought everyone out of the woodwork, because it was like Christmas traffic all over again.  After that we headed up to our friends, the Uggies, to hang out.

I think my friends and I were ahead of our time when we were in high school, because all we ever did was to go to each other’s houses and hang out.  Well, when you get to be a parent, that’s all you can really do.  You could take your kids to a restaurant to meet friends, but only if you wanted to chase them all around the restaurant.  You obviously can’t go to bars, and even sporting events are pretty difficult for the short attention spans.  Once our twice a year, you can splurge on a water park or something like that, but that gets to be pretty expensive pretty fast.  So that leaves hanging out at someone’s house as the only real acceptable thing to do with your friends that have kids.

On Sunday we decided we’d try to take Katie’s 4 year old picture, rather than waiting in cramped rooms at our local Sears (and paying $50).  We got some decent pictures, so we’ll have to print them out and see how they look.  We also have started using our digital camera as a video camera since our real DVD vidoe camera has basically stopped working (1 out of every 5 times I can get it to work if I’m willing to sacrifice mini-DVD discs).  The result is that we can easily upload these videos on to my computer and I’ve been uploading them to a network share.  Check out three of our latest videos (these are huge but they will open in a media player):

The one where Amelia goes through her vocabulary is definitely worth the wait to download.  You have to hear her sign the "Map" song from Dora.
