We had our third and final round of Christmas at my parents house on Christmas Day. Both my brothers and their families made the trek up that morning due to commitments to their spouses families. We stayed over at my parent’s house, so we could inspect the fruit and socks provided by Santa Claus at the crack of dawn.
We went to church with my parents Christmas Eve for the 4:30 service and then opened 1 present later that night. We gave my dad a combination retirement and Christmas present which was a laptop computer. Becky’s aunt was able to buy it for us the day after Thanksgiving for a great price, so it seemed like the opportune time to give him something he’s really wanted. I know it wasn’t this way growing up, but I get more satisfaction out of giving a good present than receiving one now.
Every year my mom makes a big meal on Christmas, and I don’t even really know what to call the main course. It’s steak tips in a meat-type sauce, and you put it on top of your potatoes. It’s great – I wish I could eat it more often, but I suppose I’d have to know what to call it to ask for it. Along with that we have vegetables, corn and raspberry jello/marshmallow salad – that’s always a hit. Since Dave and Alicia couldn’t make it up until the afternoon, we got to have the meal for both lunch and supper.
We opened presents in the late afternoon and the girls got lots of toys. Katie got a Dora game box which we’ve been using quite a bit since we got it. Amelia got a shopping cart which she trucks around the house all the time. Since my regular video camera is on the fritz, I took a shot at using my camera to take video, and captured a few videos of the present opening. Here’s one of them: http://www.box.net/shared/cjyb0ykw8w
I will get some pictures up, hopefully tomorrow, once I have a chance to edit them all. We took lots so there are plenty of good ones to share. Merry Christmas.
