Amelia the Red Nosed Toddler & Weekend Recap

Amelia sure is a glutton for punishment.  She fell awkwardly on the first stair and banged her nose on the bannister Sunday afternoon.  She got three red cuts on the front of her nose and it’s swelled up a little.  She wouldn’t let us put ice on it and we had to hold her down to give her Tylenol, so it took her a little while before she calmed down from all the pain.  So hopefully it will come back to normal shortly – since her sister already has a small scar on her nose from a cat scratch two years ago, we’d rather not have both girls wearing nose marks.

Besides that, we had a fun weekend.  We all spent Friday night putting together my new bookshelf from IKEA for my office.  After putting that together and cleaning up the office, it really looks like we knew what we were doing.  The office is clean, the colors are pretty consistent, and there’s tons of storage, so we’re very happy with how it all turned out.  On Saturday morning, Grandma Newell came up to watch Katie practice for her Christmas program on Sunday.  In the mid-afternoon, our friends started arriving for our annual Christmas party.  About 5-6 years ago, we started exchanging "fun" gifts instead of real ones and it’s been a fun change of pace.

This year we got our gifts from Kari and Suzi.  Kari got Becky a DVD called the "Fantasy Shopping League".  It’s something she can spend her time on while I’m wasting time on my fantasy baseball or basketball league.  Suzi got me "My Very Own Suzi" – it’s a clipboard with instructions on how to fold shirts.  I’ve always been in awe of how quickly and well she can fold shirts.  She used to work at Target for 6 years, and she evolved into a master during her time.  Hopefully I can put the lessons she taught into practice.

Our friends kids are 3 and 1 just like ours, so it’s fun to have 3 3-year olds and 3 1-year olds to play together.  We’re getting to a point where they are doing pretty well playing together, with the exception of Amelia being afraid of Eli.  Becky’s mom and grandma came at supper time, and our neighbors Leah and Tessa stopped by after a while, so we had a lot of activity in our house.

On Sunday morning, we had Katie’s Christmas program at church.  I told Becky our church should have a kids program every Sunday so the pews would be packed every week – about twice as many people come when there’s a kids program as on a normal Sunday.  Katie’s group sang pretty well – they sang 6 songs, so they had a lot to learn and I was impressed with how well they all knew the songs.

That’s all for now – I have a couple blog ideas brewing that I haven’t finished yet plus I’d like to get started on recording a Christmas album.  We’ll see how much can get done.
