Fantasy Basketball League

I didn’t think I was going to join a fantasy basketball league, but at the last minute I was convinced because it sounded like a small time commitment.  We’re drafting right now online, so I don’t have to go anywhere and I could hang out with my girls until they had to go to bed.

I had the second pick in the draft in a 8 person league, rotisserie style with Points worth 4, Rebounds and Assists 3, Steals and Blocks 2 and 3 pointers made 1.  Here’s my team by round:

  1. Kevin Garnett – might not be as great in Boston, but it’s a pretty safe pick for someone who contributes in every category
  2. Chris Bosh – all the centers were gone, so I didn’t have a plan.  I just took the best big guy available
  3. Tracy McGrady – I said I was going to avoid injury plagues guys, but I decided to take a risk since I needed the scoring
  4. Baron Davis – another injury plagued guy, but he was the best point guard and is great when healthy
  5. Kevin Martin – should score a lot with Bibby out
  6. Michael Redd – best player left by far, so I could always use the scoring and sit him when I need to catch up in other categories
  7. Kirk Hinrich – safest point guard still available – not very jazzed about him, but I need someone to back up Baron
  8. Antawn Jamison – again, don’t love this pick but he’s the best forward out there and he always gets his numbers.  I’ve decided to put off drafting a center at this point
  9. Corey Maggette – may have a breakthrough year since Elton Brand is out.  There’s no one else to score there, so he’ll probably get most of the shots.
  10. Chris Kaman – sticking with Clippers, I guess.  I need a center and he’s the best out there.
  11. Elton Brand – he’s out until late January or February, but he’d normally be a 2nd round pick.  We’ll see if I have enough patience to hold on to him that long
  12. Nenad Krstic – I need to have a backup C no matter how bad.

On first glance I think I have a good team.  Obviously I have a big hole at center, but I should be able to make a trade if I can get some of my lower picks to come around.  Not sure who I’ll start every week, but I should have lots of choices in case certain teams play only 2-3 times.
