A Trip Down Memory Lane

We decided to take a spontaneous trip to visit our college alma mater – the University of Minnesota at Morris.  It was Homecoming, and since it’s a little less than a two hour drive, we decided to head on down.  We made it to town just in time for the Homecoming parade.  The Homecoming parade was never a must-see event when I went to school there, and it’s good to see nothing’s changed there.  I’ve never been to a parade where we had 100 ft of room on each side of us.  Katie and Amelia cashed in very well on the candy since we were early on the parade route and there was no one else to whom to give candy.

Next we toured around the buildings and stopped at the bookstore.  We had to get some shirts for everyone since I haven’t had a decent UMM shirt since I left, and Amelia needed a little hooded jacket anyway.  They added a big addition to the Science Building since we left so it was nice to see that fitting in with the rest of campus.

After that we headed to the quintessential hang-out place in Morris, Don’s Cafe.  Nowhere else in the world am I as excited about getting a burger and fries.  The burgers are good (nothing special really), but it’s the mountain full of fries that are the signature of Don’s.  While we were there we ran into a bunch of Becky’s classmates, since it was her 10 year reunion and that’s where everyone goes in Morris.

We drove around and looked at the old houses we used to live in during our college days, and I’m happy to say all three (2 of mine and 1 for her) look considerably worse than they did when we lived there.  It’s hard to imagine that we lived in houses that any sane person would knock down if they saw today.

It was a fun and quick trip and it’s always interesting to jar your memory on a trip like this.
