Playing Catch-up

Lots of interesting things have happened over the past week, but I was behind with my series on our trip to Branson, so I’ll have to sum them up in one entry:

  • Prius – we got our new car last Monday just after we got home from vacation.  So far we like it – I can fit in it okay and there’s plenty of room in the back seats for the car seats.  Also we like the control screen and the fact we can play songs from Becky’s Zune through the car speakers.  The gas mileage is great (although not as great as it says it should be) with our first fill-up netting us 40.8 MPG.  Also, the car makes no noise when it’s sitting in park, so you constantly wonder if it’s died – I like that feature because it’s nice to know you’re not wasting gas when you’re not moving.
  • Katie’s First Day of School – Katie’s first day of preschool was last Tuesday as you can see by the pictures on my site.  Since she’s all confused between Day Care School, Sunday School and real Preschool, I’m not sure she understood the gravity of her going to school, but that’s okay, she rolls with the punches very well.  She was excited about bringing her backpack to class and I brought her to her classroom which is actually in the north end of the high school.  She sat and played while we waited for the other kids to arrive, and she was thrilled when her friend from day care, Jalynn, arrived.  I left her then at 8:20 to pick her up again at 11.  There was quite the lineup of moms waiting when I got back.  She had fun, and she was really excited to play with Jalynn, so all in all it was good.
  • Poker Night – I’ve been talking with a few people around town about getting together a poker night for about 2-3 years.  Well, I finally got my act together and made plans for poker on Saturday night.  We had 4 neighbors come and Becky and I both played because we started at 9pm after the kids were down.  We had a good time – in fact, we had too good of a time, because we ended up playing until almost 3am.  Becky and I were the last two left in the first round, so we didn’t bother to see who would win, and in the second round I finished 2nd.  I think Becky may have been happier with her early exit in that game because it meant she got to go to sleep about 30 minutes earlier.  We hope to have a game once a month, but given the time it took me to recover from this last one, I think we’ll have to stop the game about 1pm.
  • Amelia’s Sleeping Habits – We put Amelia in a toddler bed a couple weeks ago, and so far she likes the change from her crib.  She still cries herself to sleep most nights, but she knows that when we set her down, it’s time to go to bed.  She also likes that she can move around in her room somewhat instead of being locked in her crib.  Yesterday morning, I went in her room to wake her up, and I couldn’t find her.  I looked under the blankets that were balled up on the floor and her bed, but no Amelia.  I called to Becky who was waking up Katie and she hadn’t seen her either.  Just as Becky arrived in the room, I noticed Amelia was sleeping under her toddler bed.  The only part that was sticking out was her head.  I have no idea how she got herself into that position, but she managed somehow.  Katie thinks the story is pretty funny, so she told my mom and all her friends at day care about how Amelia likes to sleep under the bed.
