I’ve said many times that my memory is not very good – but I do remember when Katie was born three and a half years ago. I don’t know that I’m prepared for how old she is already.
I was asked to sing in church and instead of doing it myself for the 50th+ time in my life, I decided it would be a good time to ask Katie to see if she wanted to join me in singing this past Sunday. We decided to sing "He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands" because it was the religious song she knew best. She was excited but I don’t think she really understood what it meant until we got to church. We only practiced a couple times – she used a microphone at home to try to sing into it. When it came to showtime, it went really well. She smiled as she sang the whole thing. She has no stage fright at all – in fact she does better when she’s in front of an audience – she concentrates more. She could’ve put the microphone closer to her mouth, but it wasn’t bad for a first run.
We signed Katie up for school a couple weeks back and received word back that she will start Junior Preschool on Sep 18 and go every Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:15 to 11am. It looks like there will be about 17 kids in her class – including her best friend Jalynn. She’ll probably get the opportunity to ride the bus to class and we’ll have to figure out how to get her back to day care afterwards.
Katie will also start Sunday school on Sep 9. The Sunday School music teacher is already excited that she’ll be joining that class, and after church on Sunday, Katie made me walk down to the nursery room where her class will be, because she knows there are a ton of toys in that room. So she’s looking forward to that too.
Katie’s also gotten rave reviews at the new day care. She listens really well and always follow instructions and never has been a problem there. I can take that for granted sometime, but it really is a big deal. She can be occasionally a pill over supper time at home, but whenever she’s around other people she really behaves herself well.
So it’s just amazing to us that our baby is going off to school, Sunday school and singing in church already. She’s really grown up fast – it’s hard to believe. She started asking me about who she was going to marry the other day walking back from the park. I said – let’s see you get done with all your school first. I know you want to grow up fast – but that can wait.
