Several short stories

It’s been a highly blogworthy week with a number of interesting events, so I’ll try to hit a few:

  • Katie was chatting with me last week as I was getting her ready for bed- "Daddy, we don’t change our underwear at night, right"  I said "Yes, Katie, we can keep them on until we change them in the morning."  She said "That’s right, but if we don’t change them in the morning, the policeman will get very mean at us, right?"  I thought that was pretty funny, but I should include the setup that whenever she wants to sit in the front of the car, I explain how the policeman would get daddy in trouble if she was in the front of the car.  Somehow she things they have some kind of screening set up of little girls underwear as well.
  • Amelia got sick Friday morning and literally threw up all over her crib.  I pretty much threw away everything in her room after that explosion.  She never ran a fever and she felt better after a nap.  We had her EEG on Friday afternoon, and it went about exactly the same as the first one – she got the sedative, but it just made her groggy and didn’t knock her out.  She was up pretty much the whole time fighting with all the cords they run into her brain, with the exception of the last ten minutes.
  • This weekend was cousin Parker’s 2nd birthday, so we were planning to go down Saturday and stay over for his birthday party soon.  We planned to leave early Saturday, but Amelia woke up really cranky and seemingly sick to her stomach.  We decided to wait and probably just have Katie and me go down.  Well, Amelia woke up from her nap fairly quickly and was feeling a lot better.  So we decided to make the trip as a family.  Everything went fine on Saturday and Marc and Kari were gracious enough to let Becky and me go to a movie by ourselves while they watched the kids.  It had been like 2 1/2 years since we’d seen a movie together.  We got back and the kids were sleeping, so we hung out with Marc and Kari and had a beer and called it a good night.  When we woke up this morning, Katie seemed a little sick as she looked like she might throw up.  I woke her up around 8 and she said she didn’t feel good.  She got up and was doing fine for about an hour, but then she threw up in the kitchen.  She said she felt fine after that, but just before that, Becky had gone down to take a nap since she wasn’t feeling well.  So with two sick girls on our hands and another who had just been sick, we decided to leave Parker’s birthday party just before it was supposed to happen at 10:30.  It was weird to go as everyone else was coming, but hopefully it prevented others from getting sick.  Katie and Becky both threw up a few times on the way home.  However, since Amelia was sleeping, I said there was no chance we were stopping the car (Amelia almost never sleeps in the car, and likes to yell at the top of her lungs for 1/4 to 1/3 of the ride).
  • Katie was crying a little tonight because we told her she had to go back to day care (we call it school) tomorrow.  She said one of the reasons she doesn’t like it is because some of the kids said "her teeth are stinky".  It was pretty sad to see her talking about getting picked on, but most of the crying was due to her being sick and tired.  It still resulted in our first chat about what to do when been picked on – I never expected that chat to happen so soon.

Tomorrow we get the results of Amelia’s EEG and Becky starts her new position at work, so hopefully all will be well.
