This past Saturday we got to spend the afternoon and evening at my parent’s lake cabin. It was quite warm (around 90) and with very little wind, which is quite rare in our neck of the woods. It was the perfect day to hit the water. I was pleasantly surprised at how hot the water was at this time of year. Due to the 7th rainiest season in the region’s history, the water level was up about 1.5 feet at the lake, so I was a little surprised when I jumped in.
I was able to convince Katie to jump into the water and swim around with me. She was hesitant at first, but once we got going she really took to being in the water. Amelia loves being in the water, so Grandpa held her and let her splash to her heart’s content.
We then had dinner out on the deck – and nothing beats eating outside on a nice day. The bugs were even relatively contained. After dinner we sat out on the lower deck just above the water and enjoyed the nice evening. With a little of my dad’s famous popcorn, it was as good as it gets.
I’ve always wanted my own lake cabin, but I’m starting to come around to the fact that we’re probably better off going to my parents place. First, we get to see them rather than running off to our own little haven and second, we don’t have to maintain it. I’m much more happy to help take a dock out or put a boat in occasionally then to have to mow and maintain a place of my own.
Bonus funny story – on Thursday night, I decided to go play a little golf with Katie on the north side of our house. We have a city maintained field to the north of us, so there’s 160 yards of open space to hit in. I set a plastic hole out about 30 yards and practiced my chipping. Becky came out shortly thereafter and said, this looks like fun – let’s hit our drivers. I said, I didn’t think that was a good idea. Becky got out her driver, teed up her golf ball and proceeded to crush the ball all the way across the field and the ball bounced up and hit a car (on the underside) on the other side of the field. After she got done flexing her muscles, she tried to go apologize to the car owner.
