It’s been a long weekend, since we were essentially sequestered in the house with two sick girls. Katie picked up Amelia’s virus on Saturday and was pretty lethargic both Saturday and Sunday. She never says "can I go night-night" and we heard it twice this weekend. She was running a bit of a fever, but when she has a fever, she just sulks and sleeps, so it’s no trouble to manage.
Amelia came back to being herself by Saturday afternoon, but she’s been so tired that she’s been fairly cranky. She woke up this morning really tired as well. She’s had a cold to go along with her viruses, so I don’t think she’s been getting as much rest when she sleeps.
There are countless joys to being a parent and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. However, there is some seriously digusting stuff that comes with the territory. This weekend I got to see two things you just don’t see everyday. (Please stop reading if you are the least bit squeamish or you are about to eat).
1. Katie had some diarrhea with her vius on Saturday and at one point came out of the bathroom and said, "I can’t put on my swimsuit because I got poopy on my butt." She said she had wiped her butt, but she’s not so good at that. So she sat down on the floor and left some brown marks right in the middle of the kitchen before she turned around to face me butt-first. It was a very fun mess to clean up.
2. Amelia somehow managed to top that yesterday when we were playing in the living room and she started to head for the stairs. She seems to do this now when she needs her diaper changed, but that idea didn’t dawn on me. She started to put something in her mouth, and she had just spilled some dehydrated apple pieces all over the living room, so I assumed she was eating some that had gotten caught in her clothes. Well, I was partially right. She had a diaper blowout and she was actually eating apple pieces from said blowout. Yeah, that was the most disgusting thing I’ve seen in a long time.
Here’s hoping for a quiet and clean week.
