May 23 AM
5:47 Woke up – each day Becky and I trade off who gets up first and today was my day
6:25 Woke Katie up – she had wet her bed – that’s too bad since she’d made it 4 days in a row without
6:30 Woke Amelia up – as I changed her diaper she felt really warm, so I thought she had a fever
6:45 Fumbled around with the thermometer – got one to work. It’s an under arm thermometer that takes 4 minutes to be accurate (and should be -1 than her real temperature). I stopped when it got to 99 (really 100) since she knocked the thermometer out of my hand
6:48 Conferenced with Becky on who should stay home. She volunteered
6:49 I decided I could go to work and grab both our computers and bring them home so we could each try to get some work in
6:52 Headed off to Day Care with Katie.
7:30 Arrived at work (it always seems the one day I don’t take my computer home is the day I need it)
8:05 Run over to Becky’s desk to pack up her computer
8:10 Ate breakfast in Becky’s building – the breakfast there is awesome – especially the hash browns
10:00 Headed back home after a work meeting
10:30 Got home to realize we had our cleaning lady here today – those are always good days
PM
12:35 Headed to the grocery store to grab some food since our lunch options weren’t looking good. I wanted to go to the post office to get those stupid 2 cent upgrade stamps, but of course the post office is on lunch break between 12:30 and 1:30.
1:00 By this time Amelia’s temperature really hadn’t settled down. She was very warm yet and clingy and she wasn’t eating (which is very unusual for her)
2:30 Becky thought she should take Amelia to Day Care since she had been playing normally. I objected, but not strenuously since I was occupied with trying to get work done. I should’ve objected more.
5:05 Went to pick up the kids from Day Care. Amelia’s temperature was up to 102 and our day care lady didn’t seem too happy about her being there. She said she’s not supposed to have kids with temperatures over 100. She said she’s probably got an ear infection or something. She had just given her some Tylenol.
5:10 Got home and told Becky we should head to the doctor to see what the matter might be. Had it not been for her febrile seizure last month, we probably wouldn’t have worried about it, but we’re much more sensitive now when it comes to fevers. We gave Amelia some Motrin.
5:20 Called the local clinic – they are only open until 5.
5:25 Finally got out of the house and decided to head to Dairy Queen on our way out of town.
5:32 Placed order
5:44 Got food – they don’t really put the "fast" in fast food there. Note to self – do not order chicken strips when in any kind of a hurry
6:15 Arrived at doctor’s office. We got in to see the doctor pretty quickly.
6:20 Nurse took Amelia’s temperature – she said it was 98. We both said "what?". Apparently it had started dropping already. {By the way, she weighs 21 lbs now}
6:30 Saw the doctor – her ears were fine – her chest isn’t congested, but he said her throat was red. He said there’s been a virus going around that’s been causing spots or redness in the throat and it’s been leading to fevers. He also said it’s very contageous. He told us just to give her Tylenol and Motrin for the next two days to make it go away.
7:30 Got home and did some dancing in the piano room with Katie as Amelia looked on. She seemed pretty normal now.
9:00 Finally put Amelia to bed (her normal bedtime is about 7:45). She hadn’t slept much all day.
10:00 Started to do some work that I had meant to do during the day and tomorrow (which I’ll be taking off to stay at home).
10:40 Amelia woke up. She wasn’t feeling hot at all, but she needed something. She’s in the stage now where she doesn’t talk; she just points and squaks. She was pointing at the kitchen as she does so often. I gave her a little water and some Motrin. Put her back down.
10:50 She’s not asleep. Figured I should give her some food. Gave her a whole container of yogurt and some more water. Put her back down.
11:00 She’s still not asleep. I guess it’s time to play. We played for a little while and I got her some apple juice. At this point her hands were feeling a little cold, so I don’t think she has the fever anymore. Even though she can’t talk or walk, there’s definitely activity going on upstairs in her head – she knows where to point when she wants something. Before we put her to bed she found Katie’s cup downstairs. It was empty so she started crawling upstairs because that’s where you get more water. She also does this when she has a messy diaper. She starts crawling up to the top floor because that’s where she gets changed.
11:20 Finally put her down for good. She was very tired and I got the opportunity to rock her a little. When she was under 6 months, we used to try to rock her a lot and I remember spending an hour or more routinely trying to rock her to sleep. We finally gave that up and just set her in her crib, since it was nearly impossible to rock her. So she’s never been one for rocking, but it was kinda nice to get that chance again tonight.

12:02 Finished enough of my work to be at a stopping point; decided to write a blog (for some unknown reason)
12:28 Finished blog – off to sleep
