New Year’s Follow-Up

I thought it was about time to do a follow-up entry.  I haven’t been doing a great job of following up on entries – I kinda bounce around from topic to topic.  So for my next few entries I’ll try to recap and finish stories that I started before.

The first one I wanted to recap was my New Year’s Resolution entry: http://enewell.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!444015D56683B8E9!268.entry
Here were my 6 New Year’s resolutions:
1) Work out – hmm, yeah, next
2) Work with Katie on going to bed by herself and her meltdowns – the first part was accomplished about a week after I wrote the entry.  Our routine is to go potty, put her PJs on and read two books.  She’s even reading books to me now (books that she knows well – she’s not reading yet).  Once we finish reading, I leave and he falls asleep by herself.  No more camping in the hallway for 20 minutes after I put her to bed – it’s been nice.  As for controlling her meltdowns – she hasn’t gotten a lot better here.  When she’s really tired she has meltdowns and there’s just not much we can do about it.  We take her to timeout and she comes back fine.  It’s just miserable for 5-10 minutes.  And it’s not like I can predict when they are going to come.  One of her latest meltdowns came when Becky removed her yogurt top without letting her do it (she can’t even do it).
3) Work with Amelia on her walking – I think we’ve put a good effort in on this, but she still hasn’t taken off.  She’s comfortable walking on furniture and she’s walking with her little walkers.  She must be close but I’m not sure what it’s going to take for her to walk on her own.  She’s gotten too good at crawling, so she doesn’t have much incentive to walk.
4) Take my wife on a cruise – in my defense, I offered and even looked into some cruises.  We thought that being gone for 7+ days was just too long to leave the girls.  We still haven’t figured out our vacation plans for the summer.  One of us will need to be off for 3 weeks in September when our day care lady is on maternity leave.  So we’re talking about going somewhere then.  We just can’t figure out if we should drive or fly and how far is too far to fly.  We probably should decide soon before our frequent flyer miles are useless.
5) Buy some land – still haven’t done this and yes, I’ve still been talking about it a lot.  I think I’ve been appropriately gunshy though, because it’s a big commitment to buy land.  It’s still a good investment that will never lose value, and it’s a good way to diversify.
6) Keep writing my blog – I’ve been able to do this and I hope to keep it up.  It sounds like there might even be a few people reading.  I’m always surprised when someone actually references something from my blog.

That’s it for tonight – I’ll keep doing some follow-ups until I’m ready with another original called "Ode to Tab".
