In Memory of Ashton Newell

My brother, Marc, and his wife Kari, announced that they were pregnant with their second baby over Thanksgiving.  They were really excited to add to their family and it looked like this one’s birthday would be about exactly two years after their son Parker’s.  Marc and Kari are such good and dedicated parents that this baby would be very blessed.

Marc called yesterday to say they had lost the baby.  When they went in for their ultrasound on Wednesday the baby had no heartbeat.  Kari went to the doctor earlier today to end the pregnancy.  She’s doing fine physically but the baby is gone.  It’s been hard on them and as someone who’s had two kids, it’s easy to imagine how hard it would be to be mentally prepared for a baby, only to lose it halfway to term.

Marc and Kari decided to name the baby Ashton as they found out it was a boy today.  They are planning to plant trees at each grandparents lake places in his memory.

I was really naive when we had Katie thinking complications were rare once a pregnancy occurs.  Since then I’ve heard so many stories of early deliveries, C-sections, and now stillborn babies.  Looking back, we’ve been really lucky to have 2 complication free pregnancies.

Hopefully Marc and Kari will be pregnant again within the next year and Parker can be a big brother.  Their future child or children will be so blessed to grow up with them as parents.
