We took the plunge and headed to the Thumper Pond Waterpark on Sunday afternoon to take advantage of a special deal and the fact we had to take Monday off since we didn’t have any daycare. The waterpark featured four pool areas – a kiddie/splash pool, a hot tub, a basketball hoop are and a lazy river ride. There were two big waterslides that descend into the lazy river area.
We thought the girls would enjoy the kiddie pool are since it was less than a foot deep. Amelia instead tensed up like I’ve never seen before and didn’t want to have any part of the water in there. She was scared by all the splashing – there was only a few feet where you didn’t have to worry about getting spashed. Katie wasn’t even really interested in that pool although she did like the spout that shot upwards. So after some hesitation at the kiddie pool, we tried out the lazy river. That was fun and everyone enjoyed, although Amelia refused to relax – her arms were still held at attention the entire ride. Katie and I made our way up to the ride only to find out she wasn’t tall enough to go on the intertube slide, but they let us go anyway. I can see why she wasn’t allowed – that was the fastest water slide I’d ever been down.
To be concluded tomorrow.
OK – I lied – it took my three days to get back to my blog.
We decided to dine at the hotel that night because we didn’t want to take the girls out into the -10 weather. Our choices were a fine restaurant (~$18 entrees) or a lounge that served sandwiches. We, of course, chose the lounge. There was one waitress for the entire lounge (seating capacity of 200 ish) but we figured that was fine since we were the only ones there. Two more couple came in, and she was overwhelmed. Between the phone orders for pizza (which she took out of the freezer and chucked into an oven) and the occasional drink she need to make it ended up taking us 2 hours to eat. With a three year old and a one year old, this is pretty much pure torture. There was nothing for the three year old to do, so she got incredibly bored and the always-hungry one year old was not pleased that we didn’t have any food for the first hour of our time at the lounge. Becky and I, again, swore never to eat out again.
So we ate out again the next morning for breakfast, and that went better. Still there was only one waiter for the entire restaurant. He was a little more considerate of our time and Amelia (as usual) ate a ton. I think she eats more than Becky per meal.
Unfortunately, the combination of the lazy river ride and the foreign bed made my back sore, so Katie & Becky did the waterpark thing on Monday morning. They had some more fun and overall it was a fun trip.
Monday afternoon was Amelia’s 1 year appointment. Here are her stats: 19.3 lbs, in the 50% for height and 20% for weight. It sounds like she might be her mama’s twin.
