A Mouthful

This entry will be a random update on the past week:

Amelia is now working heavily on her 3rd, 4th and 5th teeth.  She has the two middle ones on the bottom and now she’s getting her left top middle tooth and one to left on the bottom.  She’s also starting her second middle tooth on top.  All this has led to a lot of sensitivity around her mouth and a few more crying spells than normal.  She’s also been suffering from a cold for the past week or so, so I’m hoping she can get passed that pretty soon.

I would now consider Amelia mobile.  She can get from our coffee table in our living room all the way over to the Christmas tree (about 6 feet away).  I would say it takes her about 45 minutes to do this, but she can get there.  She’s very good at rolling over from either side, so she just keeps rolling until she gets where she wants.  I’ve been torturing her a little bit by putting her up on her hind legs to see if she is willing to crawl.  I put her passifier out in front of her, and she just gave me this look like "Daddy, I know what you’re trying to do, and I don’t appreciate it."  She’s been more willing to get herself up on her hind legs lately, so we’re just waiting for her to make that first step.

Amelia’s also been sleeping through the night now very consistently.  She had a spell when she was sick a couple weeks ago where she was staying up until 10 some nights, but thankfully that’s gone now and she’s usually in bed about 8pm.

I would consider Katie potty-trained now.  She tells us when she needs to go potty and she can go by herself when she needs to.  She still wears a diaper at night, but we don’t worry about that too much.  She’s really made strides ever since Thansgiving when she spent time with her cousin Noah and they would have fun going to the bathroom together.  She realized that he was telling me when he had to go potty, and she found she could do that too.  One odd fact is that she seemingly prefers to go potty in public places.  She uses it as an excuse when she gets bored.  We went to a basketball game in Onida last weekend, and she had to go potty about 6 times during the hour we were there.  She treats public restroom trips as an adventure.  Thankfully, I’ve finally cured her of her tendency to want to slap the male latrines as she walks into a bathroom.

I went to my first local boys basketball game this past Tuesday.  A coworker of mine is the assistant coach for the opposing team, so I thought it would be fun to go and heckle him.  I booed when they announced his name, but I’m not sure anyone else heard.  Katie enjoyed the game for a couple reasons – there was a big section of kids in the south corner she could watch and then she really enjoyed the band when they played.  And, of course, she had to go to the bathroom 3 times while we were there.

I think we’ve gotten all the presents we need to pick up for Christmas, so thanks to Becky for being the force behind this movement.  She told me in the car that if I were single, I would have been racing around yesterday trying to get everyone’s presents in the chaos of shopping the weekend before Christmas.  I told her there was another Saturday before Christmas yet, so I’m sure I would’ve waited.

Time to go have Dora cereal with Katie.
